There was a time when slavery and subjugation of blacks in America was a very hot issue. Today, tempers have cooled down and people are in a position to look back and study the entire process with an impartial eye. Rather than coming up with the issue whether blacks have the legal right to be equal with the whites or not, we can study society and find out why people insisted on staying different and separate despite the fact that they were one and the same.
An impartial study of history is unavoidable unless you adopt a hands on approach. If you want to know more about the American Civil war and the manner in which blacks have enjoyed emancipation, it is imperative that you visit Kentucky. Kentucky is a special place as far as the American Civil war is concerned.
This is because it was impartial till the very end. It tried to play a mediator between the two opposing forces. When it failed, it permitted both parties to fight with each other on its land to determine who would be the victor.
It would not be incorrect to say that Kentucky, up to a certain level, played the role of an impassive spectator in the whole brouhaha between the Confederates and the Republicans.
This is the reason why you can find more than sixty monuments related to the American Civil war. There is no vilification of a particular side. Rather, there is an objective analysis of both sides and the pros and cons of their approach. Considering the fact that the two leaders of the two sides were bond in Kentucky, it goes without saying that a visit to the state is imperative if one wants a proper understanding of American history. Hence, make sure you remember Kentucky when you are planning an educational trip to improve your knowledge and understanding of your nation.
