The University of Cincinnati is working in tandem with ten different medical institutions to come up with an innovative way to avoid bed sores. Despite improvements in medical technology, it is very difficult to keep bed sores under control because body reacts negatively with the fabric of the bed and forms ulcer and sores.

The only way to avoid the formation of bed sores is to keep the body moving at all times. However, even the best institutions failed to take care of this aspect in a prompt manner. The university researchers tried a different approach and try to create an alarm clock that will inform the nurse in charge to move the patients. Further, the alarm system was designed in such a manner that the patients themselves were informed of the right time to move.

Each and every patient was given the option of choosing music tracks. Every two hours, the loudspeaker would play the music. The moment the nurse and the patient hear the music, they know that it is time to shift positions. This simple solution is proving to be very effective in tackling the problem.

For starters, the use of innovative technology and music has simplified the process. Nobody is feeling hurt or ashamed of the possibility of development of bed sores. Secondly, a bit of music every two hours is always going to be a good thing. Thirdly, the patients reacted positively to the fact that an effort was being made to simplify the process of avoiding bed sores.

It remains to be seen whether this system will work effectively over a long period. There is always a possibility that the human mind will get adjusted to the music just as it gets adjusted to the alarm tone. However, the researchers are trying to avoid this problem by changing the music on a regular basis. Allowing the patients to choose the music is also worked in improving their morale.
